Welcome to The Montessori Preschool of Sydney

The Early Years of a child’s life are the most important developmentally. 75% of a child’s brain develops during the first 5 years of their life, and half of all the intellectual and developmental potential of a child is established by age 4. Where you decide to send your child for their preschool years, will set the foundation for the rest of your child’s life.

The Montessori Approach to Global Development

Montessori is an approach to supporting the full development of the human being. The Montessori approach offers a broad vision of education as an ‘aid to life’. As an educational system, it is used in over 22,000 schools worldwide, and has a longer track record of success than any other educational approach in the world.

The Montessori approach to education, inspires children towards a lifelong love of learning, by following their natural developmental trajectory. Children become confident, responsible, independent learners, who trust in their own abilities. The inclusivity and positive social development facilitated by the Montessori programme forms the basis for a persistent attachment to learning and knowledge.

Montessori classrooms provide a specially crafted learning environment where children are able to respond to their natural tendency to work. Children have an innate passion for learning, and the Montessori classroom encourages this by giving them opportunities to engage in spontaneous, purposeful activities with the guidance of a trained adult. Through their work, the children develop concentration and joyful self-discipline. Within a framework of order, the children progress at their own pace and rhythm, according to their individual capabilities.

Dr Maria Montessori, a physician, anthropologist and pedagogue, developed her unique method of educating children over a professional career that spanned over fifty years. The Montessori approach was developed through intense scientific observation of children from many ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds from birth to maturity. It is based upon a deep understanding of child development.

The Difference between OUR centre and other Montessori chains of centres

Anyone who starts a business, does so as they have a passion for what they do. This is the reason I have worked so hard for 6 years to open this school. My passion for teaching children has grown and evolved over the years. However, from working in many different Montessori Schools and Traditional Childcare Centres I have sensed the passion from the top (owners) has been lost along the way. They may get side tracked with seeing the school as a business and opening as many centres as they can. It’s no wonder the passion gets lost!

Being a teacher for many years and experiencing the different ways schools are ran, I truly believe our school will be one of difference. Many of our staff are teachers I have worked with over the years and it says a lot that they are now joining us on this journey! They believe in us and are excited for the environment we are going to create together.

Passion is everything, if the children can feel this passion and joy around them, they will be excited to come to school and excited to engage.
Our philosophy simply put is “To be Happy”. Having happy staff, leads to happy children which ultimately leads to happy parents! This is our goal!

Our Philosophy

At The Montessori Preschool of Sydney we ask one question.
What is your aspiration in life for your child?
We always come back to one simple answer

‘To Be Happy’

Not to be rich, not to be famous, not to have the most things,
but simply to be happy!

That is what we strive for here at The Montessori Preschool of Sydney. We allow the child guide us and show us how best they learn. This enables our highly educated teachers to know exactly how to engage each child differently so that each child is getting the opportunity to reach their highest potential. We do not focus solely on the academic development of the child, however that aspect is met naturally by the child’s Will to learn and need for knowledge – I’m sure we have all heard a child say “what is that?” “What’s this called?”, But we focus on the entire being of the child. Their Social and Emotional development, their Cognitive development, their Physical development. Our idea of the ‘Normalized child’ is not the most clever child or the child that can read and write before school No, it is a child who is happy within themselves, who is confident, who learns because he wants to know things, because he feels the joy of learning and this all comes right back to being happy! If we are happy, the more involved we are! These qualities make for an independent thinking man.

Happiness is the most important thing in life. There’s not ‘one thing’ that will make everyone happy and different things make different people happy. This theory reflects in the Montessori philosophy where a unique curriculum is created by following each child, rather than every child following a preset curriculum.
